CASE STUDY: Prepayment meter self-disconnection

Harry had short term memory loss following a brain injury. His welfare benefits were changing and he was not due any income for a further 10 days.

He was in the emergency credit facility on his prepayment meters for gas and electricity and could not afford to top up. He had contacted his energy supplier however, they had been unwilling to assist as they had previously given a discretionary credit for his prepayment meters in a similar situation.

After the EHU contacted the supplier, it was found he was eligible for help through a fuel voucher scheme which had been put in place by the supplier. The EHU arranged for the supplier to contact Harry and a fuel voucher was issued which could be used to top up his prepayment meter.
