Who we are

Who we are

The Extra Help Unit (EHU) was created in 2008 to help people resolve difficulties with their energy supplier. Our team of dedicated caseworkers is now managed by Citizens Advice Scotland and we help more than 30,000 people every year right across England, Scotland and Wales.

As well as assisting vulnerable individuals and micro-businesses with energy issues, we also work hard to improve standards within the energy industry. We liaise closely with the regulator and other stakeholders to achieve that aim. The EHU’s evidence forms part of Ofgem’s assessment criteria when considering enforcement action against suppliers who are not fulfilling their obligations. However those cases are rare and our primary objective is to resolve complaints as swiftly and practically as possible.

Take a look at examples of the EHU’s impact on consumers, suppliers and the energy industry.
